The majority of dishwasher faults are normally caused by blockages or broken wires, so it may only cost the call-out and labour charge agreed upon before your visit. More complex faults or repairs that require expensive parts will cost more.

If your dishwasher isn’t cleaning properly, it could be due to several reasons:

• • Blocked Spray Arms: “Food particles or debris can block the holes in the spray arms, preventing the water from circulating properly.”
  • Overloading: “Overloading the dishwasher can obstruct the spray arms and stop them from turning. My advice is, when you’ve finished loading the baskets, push them into place and give the spray arms a spin; they should turn freely.”
  • Dirty Filters: “Dishwashers have filters to stop food and other objects from jamming the motor & drain pump. If these become clogged, it can affect cleaning quality. Occasionally take them out and wash them in warm water.”
  • Faulty Wash Motor: “The motor ensures water circulates through the machine; if it’s faulty or blocked, dishes won’t get cleaned properly.”
  • Low Water Temperature: “If the water isn’t heating up enough, it can affect cleaning results. Try using a longer program. I recommend normal & auto cycles for daily use and intensive for heavily soiled items. Quick washes are only recommended for very lightly soiled items. If you find the dishwasher isn’t getting hot at all, it’s time to call in the experts.”

Regular maintenance and addressing these common issues can help improve your dishwasher’s cleaning performance. Also remember, it’s a dishwasher, not a waste disposal, at least put the bones & chunky bits in the bin!

If your dishwasher isn’t drying properly, it could be due to several factors:

• Check Rinse Aid: “Rinse aid helps water evaporate from dishes. If your dishwasher is out of rinse aid or it’s not dispensing properly, dishes may not dry properly.”
• Heating Issues: “Most dishwashers use residual heat to help dry the dishes. If the heating element is faulty or not working as it should, the dishes won’t dry properly.”
• Plastic Items: “If it’s plastic, it won’t dry (unless your dishwasher is really fancy!).”
• Wrong Cycle Selected: “Some dishwasher cycles don’t have a drying phase at the end, especially quick washes and rinses. Check the manual to make sure.”
• Leaving the Door Closed for Too Long: “Probably the most common reason for not drying properly is running the dishwasher in the evening and leaving the door closed until the morning. All that residual heat (steam) used to dry the dishes has gone cold and condensed back to water. My advice is, when the cycle has finished, wait about 10 minutes, open the door to get a nice steamy facial, pull the top basket out a bit (this stops the door from closing), and leave everything to finish drying.”
